Slow updating portage cache
Most of the time.....except for after a clean install, it only takes about 1 min...at least for me, it has never been slow, just doesn't give correct information on what it has deleted, but its been doing that for a long time. Windows update cleanup runs dism to tidy up your Win Sx S folder. I can't say I've noticed any particular decrease in speed recently. That would make a big difference in speed of course. @Old Mike65 - I have an SSD (Samsung 840EVO, 250GB) which I've been using for nearly the past year.I do quite a lot of clean installs in VMs and it never takes more than a couple of minutes (host has SSD). All I was trying to say was that I had the same long disk cleanup time when I chose 'Clean up system files' and select Windows Update Cleanup after a clean install of Windows 10, exactly the same issue the OP has. SSD's prices are coming down quite a lot these days, maybe you might want to upgrade yours?? It's just the last couple of Windows 10 clean installs I've done in the past few weeks (I like to experiment) where Disk Cleanup has been very slow cleaning up Windows Update files.how to add in the disk cleanup option:( 40966 I decided to commit to the Windows 10 upgrade and get rid of the folder, which was very large. After I ran the System Files Cleanup option in Disk Cleanup, it reported that I could gain over 18GB by proceeding. In the Settings panel, select the Downloads tab and you'll find the "Clear Download Cache" button at the bottom. Then select "OK" to confirm and acknowledge that you'll need to login to Steam again.I've done a few clean installs of Threshold 2 since November and it wasn't slow like that until the past week or so (I've done 2 clean installs over the past week and they've both been slow with Windows Update Cleanup). Windows 8 had the same 'bug' and it now seems to have crept into Windows 10 (at least for me). Has anyone else noticed how slow Disk Cleanup has become if you choose 'Clean up system files' and select Windows Update Cleanup after a clean install of Windows 10?
This instantly improved my download and upload speeds. Apparently I had mistakenly installed a program called "c Fos Speed Internet Accelerator Ping Optimizer" during my transition to Windows 10, thinking it was an essential driver.I have W10TP b10240 and I've been reading about this option for "System compression" in Disk Cleanup.
