then i pressed Shift F3 and thought of checking the function is listed in user defined option .. .i am able to see user defined option in function box.. where i can learn the vba from basics to writing of user defined functions. Hello, I've written a custom function which runs 2-3 macros in another workbook and returns a specific item from an array generated in the other macros. To change this, open the workbook, select the "Formula" tab (Alt M), then click "Calculation Options" and the select "Automatic". I think this can happen when you end up with different data types in the fields in the given range. Can you check and make sure the data in there is all still numerical? i thought of writing one simple code to learn how to write user defined function , i went into the google found a small vba code of making user defined function . i did the same how it was appeared in the website.., but when i press shift F3 .. , thanks for giving me the reply , i knew to select down the user defined function and then proceed with my function ... why it shows you and why not me in the function box.. and in manage i selected Excel Add-ins then i pressed go... " Count Words Function will count words in single cell, or range of cells." The Code Function Count Words(r Range As Range) As Long Dim r Cell As Range, l Count As Long Module and paste in the code. The Function will appear under "User Defined" in the Paste Function dialog box (Shift F3). i am unable to see " User defined " option in function box.
My suspicion is that something in one of those three macros called is performing an illegal operation, causing the UDF to stop and returning the #Value error.
Now writing functions had been easy with the help of Mike . and i am not able to select it .else write the function directly .. Please send a sample of user defined function to my email id ..
i have downloaded his videos and practise it at home ... selected user defined function but under it my created function doest appear.. if you can help me to write down my first user defined function and some what in VBA..
The function works as intended because it had the desired effect in my worksheet this morning.
However, I've come back to the sheet to continue working on another area to find all the cells containing the function showing "VALUE! I've tested the function by calling it from a subroutine and putting the function result in a msg Box - it returns the expected answer. Any suggestions welcome as I'm really not sure what the solution is (as you'll see from the code, I've tried using volatile to no avail so I commented it back out).
A volatile function will be recalculated whenever calculation occurs in any cells on the worksheet. Non-volatile functions are only recalculated when any of the function's arguments change.
